A fairer view on acupuncture
Fairview Acupuncture, based in Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire, is run by Emma, a science-trained acupuncturist who uses needles to stimulate energy flow and promote healing.Focusing on a balanced body and mind is a key part of any care plan. While Fairview Acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, Emma also incorporates modern approaches by using acupuncture to stimulate nerves under the skin and in muscles. This may encourage the release of endorphins (the body’s natural pain relievers), helping to reduce pain, ease inflammation, and improve blood flow to injured areas.
"At Fairview Acupuncture we look at both traditional acupuncture based on the five-element healing process and dry needling when considering a treatment plan."

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is when fine, single use and sterile needles are inserted at certain points within the body for therapeutic or preventative reasons. What is Five Element Acupuncture?
Five Element acupuncture looks to address all intrinsic and extrinsic elements that might affect the body and cause illness or an imbalance. Treating them with acupuncture usually reduces any physical symptoms that might be presenting. The idea is, that treating the root cause of the health condition, whether physical, emotional or mental can re-establish balance and thus reduce symptoms. Is Acupuncture Recommended?
Acupuncture is recommended by the NICE guidelines for short term relief of chronic pain, including migraine, back pain and musculo-skeletal pain, and is also recommended by the World Health Organisation for a wide range of conditions.- What Is Dry Needling?
- Are there any side effects?
- What can acupuncture treat?
- Is it suitable for everyone?
Dry needling is a therapeutic treatment that uses single use, sterile needles to penetrate the skin and underlying muscle tissue. It's used to relieve muscle pain and improve movement by targeting myofascial trigger point (tight or tender areas in muscles). These trigger points can cause pain, stiffness, and a limited range of motion. The needles stimulate the muscle and increase blood flow to the area, thus reducing muscle tension, and promote healing and reduce pain.

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments currently on offer in the UK. Minor side effects could include dizziness, a change in gastrics movements or light bruising around the needle points. But, any minor side effects that do occur, are infrequent, mild and usually correct within a few days.

What would a treatment look like?
The first treatment. The initial session can take up to 90 minutes and begins with an in-depth consultation where we would discuss lifestyle details, diet, sleep and relevant medical history. In addition to what you would like to achieve from the sessions. It is important in this session to list any allergies or reactions you might have to metal in the past and to inform me of a pregnancy. You will be asked to sign a consent form. All information disclosed will be kept confidential and stored following The Common Law Duty of Confidentiality.
The first acupuncture treatment will then follow. Please come wearing loose fitting clothing, and be prepared at times to remove outer clothing. Towels will be available and the bed can be heated to your comfort.
Follow up treatments.
Following treatments are 45 to 60 minutes long and each treatment is tailored to your specific needs and to any feedback provided by yourself.
Musculoskeletal treatments can be shorter while acupuncture based on Five Element Acupuncture, can be longer. A normal course of treatment would be a weekly appointment for five weeks, progressing to fortnightly and then proceeding to longer intervals as and when required. However, as with any successful treatment plan, flexibility is key and appointments can be discussed at the time of booking.

Hi. I'm Emma.
Acupuncture PractitionerHi, I’m Emma and a licensed level 5 acupuncturist, within Buckinghamshire. I also have a Cell and Molecular Biology Bachelor of Science Degree, a Post Grad in Education and presently also work as a Level 4 Lower Back Pain rehabilitative and referral Personal Trainer in the area local to Flackwell Heath.
Initially, I qualified in acupuncture with the aim of complimenting my Personal Training business by focusing on sports injuries and other muscular imbalances. And while I have a range of experience achieving pain relief in clients with knee, back, neck and hip pain through dry needling, I have also been fascinated by how the Traditional Chinese Medicine and therefore the targeted use of meridians has been effective in the treatment of gastric concerns, stress, insomnia and migraines.
My goal with Fairview Acupuncture is to offer clients a safe and comfortable environment to undergo a treatment that is tailored to their needs and goals.
Relevant Qualifications
- Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture (Total Therapy)
- Level 4 Lower certificate in Exercise for management of lower Back Pain (Vtct)
- Qualified Teacher Status and a Certificate of Education (Reading)
- 2:1 Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology (Brunel University)
Despite being embedded in Traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, Acupuncture and dry needling is finally becoming an applauded method of treatment within the western work and is now accepted and suggested by the NHS for a range of conditions from muscular skeletal, through to stress, anxiety and unexplained gastric conditions. It is also less invasive than any medical procedure. With my background heavily routed in science, I feel I can offer my clients a balanced approach to any treatment by considering both a western approach to any condition im addition to having the ability to apply Traditional Chinese Medicine methodology.
I have been impressed and intrigued by how acupuncture needles can stimulate the vagus nerve and thus impact the nervous system by decreasing heart rate, improving heart rate variability and modulating stress responses. I have found my ten years as an educator give me the ability to explain clearly to clients any treatment plan and my years as a rehabilitative personal trainer have given me familiarity with a number of muscular and skeletal conditions. I would like to offer you a treatment plan that you are comfortable with that is also flexibility to your needs and conditions.
I am based in the peaceful village of Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire, nestled between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield. I welcome clients into a dedicated treatment room within my home, designed to be calm, private, and relaxing - the perfect setting to unwind and focus on your wellbeing.

What my clients say

At seven months pregnant, I struggled with hemorrhoids and was incredibly uncomfortable. My GP provided very little help, telling me "this is part of pregnancy for some women", with very few solutions as I was also unable to use some over the counter medicines. At first I was sceptical having not had acupuncture before, however my symptoms were reversed within 24hours and luckily did not come back during the rest of my pregnancy (nor after birth). I was very happy with the results and amazed at the speed in which the treatment worked for me.

I went to see Emma after struggling with frequent headaches and tension across my shoulders. I had tried a few different things in the past but nothing seemed to make a real difference. After a course of acupuncture treatments, I began to notice the headaches becoming less frequent and the tension easing. What stood out to me was how much care Emma took in tailoring each session to how I was feeling that day. She explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and made me feel confident about the treatment. The sessions themselves were surprisingly relaxing, I often left feeling calmer and lighter than when I went in. Emma’s professional yet friendly approach, combined with the peaceful setting of her treatment room, made the whole experience positive. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a natural way to manage ongoing health issues.

I went to see Emma for acupuncture treatment on my back pain and found it made a real difference. I had been struggling for some time, but after a few sessions the discomfort eased considerably and I was able to get back to everyday activities with much more comfort. Emma took the time to listen carefully and explained how the treatment would work, which helped me feel completely at ease. I hadn’t tried acupuncture before and was a little nervous about needles, but Emma’s reassuring approach meant the whole process felt very natural. Most of the time I barely noticed the needles at all. Her treatment room is calm, professional, and welcoming, which made each visit not just helpful for my back but also a truly relaxing experience. I always left feeling lighter and calmer, both physically and mentally. I would happily recommend Emma to anyone considering acupuncture.

To try to stay fit and active now I’m in my sixties I have significantly increased the amount of training and exercise I am doing. The one downside to this is that I have put parts of my body under more strain than before. To make sure that any muscular-skeletal issues are treated and their effects minimised I have been for acupuncture treatment with Emma. The areas that I have had problems with are my neck and shoulder, my lower back and my left elbow. The improvement was noticeable very soon after the treatments and I have been able to continue training and playing badminton whereas before I would have had to rely on pain medication or even stopping exercising for a while. Emma’s treatment room is clean, warm and fully equipped. As someone who is not good with needles and has never had acupuncture before Emma was able to reassure me that it wouldn’t hurt. In fact, I can say most of the time I didn’t even feel the needles going in! Her knowledge, not just of acupuncture, but also general physical health and physiology is excellent. The result is a very joined up way to treat any issues and continue to stay fit and healthy.

FAQs
Very occasionally symptoms may worsen shortly after the first treatment. This is usually short-lived and is seen as a good sign of healing but please let me know of any changes.
